The purpose of an alternator in a vehicle is to convert mechanical energy, usually provided by the engine, into electrical energy. It serves as a generator that produces alternating current (AC) to power the electrical system of the vehicle and recharge the battery. The alternator helps supply electricity to various components such as lights, heater, radio, wipers, and also charges the battery while the vehicle is running. Without an alternator, the battery's power would gradually deplete and the electrical system of the vehicle would fail to function properly.
